Seismic Design to the New Zealand Loading Code

In the structural engineering profession, standards regulate the minimum performance criteria for the design of structures in order to minimize the vulnerabilities of structures to earthquake, wind and gravity loads. Although New Zealand standards provide minimum requirements for design, it is an engineers' responsibility to design structures above these minimums, which typically sets the bar for the vulnerability level of the structure. The decision for this is usually governed by client preferences and costs.
